Favourite Pattern Friday, October 26, 2018, Issue 75: Only 8 weeks until Christmas!!

It really is time to start those Christmas gifts! Here is quick and beautiful little something!

Boardwalk Stroll Mitts by Jennifer Shiels Toland are a great way use up the left over yarn! They are a seamless design, knit in the round beginning and ending with an eyelet mesh, with a wide twisted rib that connects both. The thumb gusset is created by simple increases forming a continuous wide twisted rib pattern. And it comes with a bonus for those of you who love knitting 2-at-time mitts – the same pattern is used for both the left and right mitts!

About 157 - 166 yards of fingering yarn is needed, 3.3 mm (US 4) and 3.75 mm (US 5) needles or the needle sizes to get gauge. Gauge is 28 sts x 31 rows = 10cm x 10cm (4”x 4”) in the 6 x 1 Twisted Rib on the larger needle, worked in the round with measurements taken with relaxed not stretched fabric after blocking. The pattern includes two sizes - small and medium-large.

The Pastella hat pattern by Katrin Schubert is a fast and fun knit which moves seamlessly from the ribbed brim to the lace pattern and the crown decreases are part of the pattern too. The PASTELLA hat is worked up quickly and fully reversible. The pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up. Directions are given for two sizes and written in parentheses as follows: Child (Adult, Cowl). The Orange sample shown is knit in Malabrigo Yarn Rios (100% Merino-Superwash, 192 metres /100grams) in Sunset.

Here is the lovely Pastella hat by Katrin Schubert knit in Kelbourne Woolens’ Scout by @magpieyarn! The pattern needs 110 (130, 330) yards, 100m (120m, 300m) of DK weight yarn and 3.5 mm (US 4) needles for a gauge of 24 sts, 32 rounds = 4” / 10cm.

The Ranunculus by Midori Hirose of Knit Cafe Midori has been on my radar well over a year! Well Monday morning I cast it on...first time doing a tubular cast on!

Look how fast it grew in one day!

Here is my Ranunculus now...a little slower since I am still working on my Swoncho too! I am knitting it holding two strands of yarn together. I am using Diamond Luxury Mulberry Linen and Drops Kid Silk. At the moment I am on my third skein of Mulberry Linen and the second ball of Kid Silk.

I have only worked about 2 more inches on my Ninilchik Swoncho this week but I am pleased with how my colours are working up. I hope to get a few photos of the group knitting the Swoncho for the Colourwork Class!

Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can't be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Our special volunteer knitters provide these free to those requesting them. Knitted knockers can be adjusted to fill the gap for breasts that are uneven and easily adapted for those going through reconstruction by simply removing some of the stuffing.

Two Knitted Knockers yarns - Cascade Ultra Pima in two colours...

Cobasi DK is the second option for Knitted Knockers. These two yarns are on the approved list of yarns that can be used. Only knockers made from this list will be used to fill orders at knittedknockers.org. Any knitted knockers can be dropped off at the shop and I will ship them to Bellingham, WA for distribution to women requesting a free knocker.
