Mother's Day is this weekend, the perfect opportunity to simply say thank you. With lovingly chosen gifts related to knitting and crocheting, you're giving the gift of time for creative breaks, new favourite projects and to give joy that comes from the heart.

Yua by Natasja Hornby is a soft statement, built around a bold lace front panel. The surrounding fabric is kept simple, with a stockinette eyelet pattern that adds just enough texture to keep things interesting while letting the lace take center stage.
Worn casually, she feels light and effortless; styled up, she leans into its more romantic side. The kind of sweater you reach for without overthinking, knowing it will work.
The pattern includes instructions for both a sleeveless and a sleeved version, making it a true all-seasons piece. Thoughtful in construction and versatile in wear, Yua is a design that invites you to make it your own.
CONSTRUCTION
Yua is worked from the bottom up. You’ll begin by casting on for the body and working in the round to the underarm. At the underarm, the piece is divided into front and back.
The upper front is worked flat first, followed by the upper back. Once both are complete, the shoulders are seamed. Stitches are then picked up around the armholes.
For the sleeveless version, the armhole ribbing is worked in the round. For the version with sleeves, the sleeve caps are shaped with short rows. After that, the sleeves are worked in the round to the cuffs.

On Wednesday, April 22nd, it was announced that textile artist, designer and knitting tutor Helen Robertson has been named as the official Shetland Wool Week patron for 2026.
The keenly awaited hat pattern, synonymous with the patron launch, has also been released. This year’s design, the ‘Birsie Beanny’, is a bold and distinctive piece that reflects Helen’s story and creative spirit, bringing together inspiration from Shetland Wool Week with elements drawn from her own creative journey.

The patterns within the Birsie Beanny design echo different strands of Helen’s work – from her signature silver knitted tiaras to traditional Shetland lace motifs such as Liss Hols, once used by her Unst granny in her christening shawl (pictured above). A heart motif from her Mariner’s Compass hat sits alongside a crown inspired by her lace tree of life designs. The slouchy shape of the hat was inspired by the style work in Stanley Cursiter’s portrait ‘The Fair Isle Jumper’ (1923).
The Birsie Beanny is presented in four distinct colourways from Jamieson & Smith, Jamieson’s of Shetland, Foula Wool and Uradale Yarns, each reflecting Helen’s interests and inspirations.

FOs and WIPs

I finally have a little progress to show for my Kitsch Cardigan by Sedna Knitting Test Knit. A few weeks ago, I realized that when I switched from my 3.0 mm 16 inch circular needles for my sleeve to 40 inch circulars to magic loop, I picked up 4.0 mm needles by mistake. I had to frog back several inches!

I still have a long way to go...sleeve island on both of my WIPs.
