Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Issue 425: What's on your needles?
January usually means snow and cold...We haven't had too much snow here in the Windsor, Ontario area until today but we have had frigid cold temperatures when it truly feels like sweater weather! Isn't it a great excuse for us knitters and makers to sit and knit or make something!
What sweaters come to your mind to wear at this time of year? Here are a couple of sweater weather patterns.
Eun Sweater by Ane Fiskum Sunde (@novemberknits) is a raglan sweater with a high side split that is worked top down. The neckband is knitted in rib and folded in half, and short rows are worked to shape the neckline. The body is worked in stockinette stitch in the round before being divided into front and back pieces, which are worked flat in rib, one at a time. See recommended video tutorials at www.novemberknits.com.
PetiteKnit's Cumulus O-neck is worked from the top down in stockinette stitch with two strands of thin mohair/silk yarn held together throughout. The design has a round neckline. All edges are finished with i-cord.

I didn't get a chance to work on my Mellow Mood Sweater this week but I did get about half of the body knit. I was trying to start doing my usual January inventory but unfortunately, the process is very different from my old system. I used to be able to print out an inventory list sorted by category but there is no such report in the new system. The list I was able to export listed everything in the order they came in which means it is not an efficient way to count inventory.
I discovered today when I was helping Marilyn with a mistake she had done that I totally missed the part in the pattern that had the section under the arms all knit in pattern! I have the cast on stitched knit in stockinette. She showed some of the photos that I had missed on the Ravelry pattern page. The pattern includes just two photos that don't show this area. I am not going to change mine but keep it as it is.
Sandi (sandima) has been trying to use up stash. She finished this F542 Cloche Hat by Plymouth Yarn Design Studio using the pattern she put in her libray in 2014 and gifted yarn from 2015.
The next classes start February 7th. Is there any interest in beginner classes such as our Beginner Mitt Class, the Beginner Cabled Hat Class or the Felted Loafer Slipper Class? I have not had time to sew the pieces together to finish my slipper sample and felting them. So far one has registered. Are these still too advanced for an absolute beginner who wants to learn how to cast on and how to knit and purl? D I reschedule the next group of classes to start earlier?
