PATTERNS

Rosemary (Romi) Hill’s Trumpeter’s Toque - a free hat pattern! The pattern is both written and fully charted. Trumpeter’s Toque is inspired by my very favorite trumpet player, and he loves the hat so much, he asked for one in his favorite color. It has a lovely big fat cable and lots of room for extra hair. You can add a pompom or keep it pompom-free to go under your favorite hoodie.

For the toque, you will need 190 - 200 yards (174 - 183 m) of aran weight yarn, 4.5 mm (US 7) and 5.5 mm (US 9) needles or as required to get a gauge of 15 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch - blocked. How about knitting it with West Yorkshire Spinners Blue Faced Leicester Aran or Malabrigo Worsted?

Tamsyn by Kristina Smiley is free for a limited time! This is a customizable shawl that begins with alternating rows of Garter and Stockinette Stitch using basic knit and purl stitches, then transitions to a more intermediate pattern with yarn overs and lace, and ends with a more complicated design using twisted stitches and mock cables. You can choose to make the entire shawl using any of the three sections if you wish, or start with one, and progress to the next level that challenges your abilities. Tap into your creativity and make it as simple or complicated as you’d like.

You will need 650 - 690 yards (594 - 631 m) of DK weight yarn and 3.75 mm (US 5) needles for a gauge of 24 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch. The finished size is 16” x 60” blocked.

Here is another of Andrea Mowry's knit designs based on the mosaic stitch pattern that she used in her The Shift, Nightshift and her Shifty! This hat is her Shiftalong. Mosaic knitting! This is one of my favorite ways to play with combining colors, and is a simple technique for even newer knitters to try out! If you can slip sts, knit and purl - then you can do Mosaic knitting!

You will need 2 skeins of sport weight yarn, 2.75 mm (US 2) and 3.5 mm (US 4) needles for a gauge of 26.5 stitches and 64 rows = 4 inches measured over the stitch pattern knit in the round, after blocking. Knit it with Schoppel Wolle Edition 3 (New).

WIP's and FO's

Do you remember how much I had done on my Riverway cardigan?

A big uh oh!! As some of you know, I decided to pull the needles out of my Riverway cardigan by Veera Välimäki and frog it back because of a row full of mistakes! I knit not the whole row but a good part of a row 5 of the lace pattern wrong. At first I thought I would leave it since I am using a fairly dark colour...No one will notice! But the more I thought about how the lace will open up when I block it, the more I thought I had to frog it back! I have a long way to go again to get back to where I was...

I have been working on my Birkin by Caitlin Hunter that I cast on with the Strange Brew colourwork class and the swapped out chart.

Birkin has been very challenging though...It has a multitude of rows that use have 3 colours so not so easy! It has turned out to be not as bad I thought but I am managing.

As usual my gauge for the colourwork is not tight like many have issues with but too loose. I tried the yoke on over my shoulders this morning and it looks good! I was so worried because it is longer in depth already than the pattern gives and I still have the 9 row chart 3 to go! Fingers crossed!

KNIT GROUP AND GALLERY

The current Knit-Alongs are the Knit Your Any Sweater KAL and the Knit Any Shawl KAL and the Knit Your Project: the everlasting knit-along to encourage and support you to knit will run from September 1 until December 31st.

Victoria decided to use a merino wool for her warp and Noro Silk Garden Light for her weft.

Victoria came in on Tuesday to show me this awesome scarf that she started at our Weaving Workshop on Sunday and finished the same night. Just blocking to go!!

She loves how it turned out and so do I!

Libby started out using a single ply merino that she brought but turned out not to work well as her warp. It started to fray as she was weaving so instead of trying to use it for her weaving she decided to try something else. She decided on a fuschia merino for her weft and Noro Kitori for her weft! Doesn't it look pretty with the tweedy shots of colour?

If there are any classes that you are interested in taking but the dates didn't work, please take the time to check the dates again. I have rescheduled several so I can hopefully avoid cancelling them! The Weaving Class ran but if there is enough interest, I will schedule it again. Please note that the weaving class is usually run on a Sunday from 10am until 4pm.

Angela finished her very first sweater and did a beautiful job and it looks fabulous on her! Gracious by Espace Tricot knit with Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light.

Angela found us at the Fiber Sho in September and has been coming to our regular Thursday Knit Night! Her next project is Missoni Accomplished which is also by Espace Tricot! She is planning to use Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light!

Not finished but this is Katherine’s WIP - Malabrigo Mechita is the yarn and the pattern is a modified version of Nakia's Infinity Scarf, the Handknit Version by Jeff Gillies.

Linda says she only knows how to crochet by following the videos for the crochet projects she has made! This one is Sacred Space by Helen Shrimpton.
