Friday, November 15, 2019, Issue 123: Just over 5 weeks until Christmas!

This one has been on my radar for a while now...I want to knit one soon but I have so many projects that I want to make!

Love Note by tincanknits knits up quickly from the top down. The combination of mohair lace and single-ply merino creates a fabric that is floaty, soft and sensual. With a high-low hemline and two length options, what’s not to love? The lace stitch pattern for this design is described both in chart format, and in text instructions.

The required yardage given in the pattern is the combined yardage so if you need 600 yards, you will need 600 yards of both yarns or if you are planning to use one yarn only, you will need 600 yards of a DK weight yarn. 4.5mm (US 7) and 6.0mm (US 10) needles or as required to meet the gauge of 16 sts and 24 rounds / 4” in stockinette using the larger needles. Suggested yarns include Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, Lichen and Lace 80/20 Sock and Marsh Mohair, Garnstudio Drops Kid Silk.

Bisontintine Mittens by La Madison Rililie are wonderfully giftable knit for your knit-worthy friends and family. The free pattern are for fingerless mittens made extra long to keep the wrist warm and of course they had to have stripes to stay fun! Not really the quickest project because they are knit with fingering weight yarn but great nonetheless.

To get rid of the colour-change-jog in stripes I chose to just make a fun design detail out of it since it is a real pain to try to conceal the dreaded jog successfully as shown off on miso-p on Ravelry’s Bisontintine Mittens! For these mittens, you will need 2 x 50g skeins of sock yarn in two different colours or approximately 230 yards (210 m) of each. The recommended needles are 2.5 mm (US 1.5) to get a gauge of 34 stitches and 48 rows = 4 inches in stocking stitch. Suggested yarns are Coopknits Socks Yeah! or Koigu KPM or KPPPM which come in 50g skeins but of course you can use any fingering weight yarn!

Another wonderful free pattern from La Maison Rililie is Cocoon for a hat with two options. The original pattern had a rounder crown while the new has a tubular cast on and much more pronounced decreases - a kind of a pointy/hipster version of the original Cocoon hat. Two sizes available for both versions.

You will need 119 - 126 yards (109 - 115 m) of bulky yarn, 5.0 mm (US 8) and 5.5 mm (US 9) needles to get a gauge of 16 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches in Broken Rib Stitch. Try knitting this using Malabrigo Mecha, Berroco Vintage Chunky or Garnstudio Drops Air.

WIP's and FO's

This week, I again didn't work on my socks or my other WIPS! I decided to work on my Jólaskjól by Védís Jónsdóttir! It was looking so amazing that I had trouble putting it down.

Today’s progress photo (Nov 15th) of my Jólaskjól. This time I also included the tips of my shoes so you can see how big it is! I am getting close to the end...not too many more rows. It shrank from 481 stitch cast on to the 123 stitches I have on my needles now. There are 43 stitches on the last row! I still need to steek (cut) it after sewing along two columns of purl stitches and then picking up and knitting button bands.

KNIT GROUP AND GALLERY

The current Knit-Alongs are the Knit Your Any Sweater KAL and the Knit Any Shawl KAL and the Knit Your Project: the everlasting knit-along to encourage and support you to knit will run from September 1 until December 31st.

There is a Butterfly / Papillon Knit-Along starting in January! We can also start a Nightshift Knit-Along!

Paulette brought in several finished projects! This and the next photo are socks that she knit...

Paulette has knit another Baby Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth Zimmerman with a matching hat! If any one is interested we will schedule a class for this classic! The shop has the ABCSJ (Adult, Baby and Child Surprise Jacket) pattern, as well as the Complete Surprise Jacket by Elizabeth's grandson Cully Swansen.

Paulette knit these gorgeous fingerless mitts using Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Jumper Weight and some Bergère de France Ideal thrown in. Pattern is Fair Isle Arm Warmers by Yoko Hatta found in 60 Quick Luxury Knits.

Linda finished her modified Birds of a Feather shawl by Andrea Mowry...she ran out of her blue.

No one will notice when it is wrapped around your neck!

One of several finished projects knit by Lise (Mattedcat) is French Twist by Dani Sunshine for her granddaughter! She used Cascade 220 Superwash.

One of Lise (Mattedcat)’s favourite patterns to knit and she has knit several is Fairy Dust by Dani Sunshine.

Lise test knit this Cabled Stocking by Lara Simonson - what a wonderful Christmas stocking!

Debbie (Debsnubs) has knit a second The Throwback by Andrea Mowry - this one is for herself! Love the colours!

Jen (zjewell) finished this one of nine WIPs that were on her needles! These are a test knit with the pattern not on Ravelry yet.

Here is her mom wearing them! Jen is my magic loop sock teacher...Her next class starts next Tuesday night. If you want her to teach you - she is a fabulous teacher, please register! We need at least one more to run the class.
