Free Pattern Fridays - Friday, October 13, 2017, Issue 24: Great knitting weather! What is on your needles?
Lately, probably because of the weather, I have felt the need to get cozy and knit - even more than usual! The Fibre Co. has pre-released their Mistake Stitch Rib Hat which is free to download all this weekend (until Sunday, October 15).
This little hat uses 2 hanks of Road to China Light and would be great treat for yourself to wear this winter or would make a great gift. The pattern includes instructions for knitting in the round or flat so even a new knitter could knit it. Wear with a little slouch or the brim folded up for a snugger, cosier fit. You can even choose to add a pompom!
Lavender Dreams by Sue Kay Knits is a lovely new shawl that was recently added to Ravelry. The shawl body is garter stitch and eyelet worked from the bottom to the top with an I cord bind off. The shawl increases with an edge yarn over that is picked up for the bottom border. The blocked out shawl size after drying is approximately 76 x 19” (193 x 48cm).
Parnell by the Berroco Design Team uses two shades of Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light to create an oversized pullover. It is knit bottom up and is seamed but could easily be converted to be knit in the round. The stripes are worked in the body and sleeves, but the shoulders are worked in a solid color for a chic look.
WIP's and FO's
Well it has been another week and once again I haven’t a finished objects! I do have a lot of Works in Progress even more than last week.
The Surge by Lisa Mutch that I cast on for the Sue2knits and Yarn Group's Asunder/Any Lisa Mutch Shawl-Along has inched along a little more! I have completed section 1 and one short row section. I decided to use German short rows and despite the fact that I still think my stitches look really loose, I have decided I will continue on!
A new work in progress is Tin Can Knits Flax which a friend of mine wants to give her son! Since they live in Minnesota, I decided to knit it with LettLopi using 1420 Murky and 9418 Stone Blue Heather and adding a 4" turtleneck instead of the pattern's 1" neckband.
My Öræfi by G. Dagbjört Guðmundsdóttir has progressed but I am still working on the body. I really wanted to work on this exclusively but everything else seems to take precedence including a blanket that I am finishing for someone. I am going to - big sigh, big gulp - going to frog it and cast on again using the 4.0 mm needles instead! This is despite having swatched but it is coming out smaller than what I like in a sweater that is supposed to loose fitting.

The Lisa Mutch (Northbound Knitting) Shawl Along: Asunder or any of her shawl patterns has started and will run from October 1 to November 30.

Any Project Knit Aong: An everlasting knit-along to encourage and support you to knit your own project (any project, and join in anytime!). This has the same dates and deadlines as any other knit-along running to be included in the same draws! So this KAL has also started and will also be October 1 to November 30.
There are a few Surge, an Augury, an Asunder or two and an Auspice being knit for the Lisa Mutch Shawl Along. There is a Pumpkin Patch Shawl, hats of course in the Any Project KAL. Please sign up and post pictures by the November 30th deadline to be included in the next draw.
Connie "found" Comfort Fade Cardi a the new Andrea Mowry pattern that she just has to knit! Well of course, a bunch of us have purchased the pattern so it looks like this will be a future KAL! I will have to plan some kits for this...
