Favourite Patterns Friday, March 8, 2019, Issue 91: Still not spring but are you gearing up for its arrival?

I like my cozy knits like Christina and her amazing Sunday Sweater by PetiteKnit that she knit using Berroco Brielle. which has only 10% wool and 7% Alpaca in it even though it looks like more. The soft halo from the alpaca content combined with just a little bit of shimmer creates timeless pieces that are soft and warm to wear.

I still have winter knits on my mind like Sueza's As the Leaves Begin to Fall by Eliza Jarvi. The colorwork hat is knit from the brim up, worked in two colors of sport-weight yarn, with a rolled brim for a little extra flair. It is a good project for colorwork beginners with few long floats. The decreases were designed to minimize interference with the leaf design, but may require a little extra attention. You will need approximately 150 yards of the main color, and approximately 75 yards of a contrasting color using 3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.0 mm (US 6) needles or needles to give you a gauge of 24 stitches and 25 rows = 4 inches. Sueza knit hers with Drops Puna.

Laia by Lisa Hannes of Maliha Designs is a beautiful triangular shawl featuring a delicate lace motif and twisted ribbing. It is worked sideways on the bias from one tip to the opposite edge makes it fun to knit and easy to wear. The pattern was knit using a dk weight yarn and 4.5 mm (US 7) needles for a gauge of 19 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch. You can also use a different yarn, weight and/or yardage since the pattern is easily adjustable in the body and border parts.

One of the gorgeous test knits for Laia was JChan8 - a local Windsorite! Jenny describes the shawl as very feminine and delicate but modern and unfussy at the same time.

Isabell Kraemer’s Petula Pullover is another great, comfortable and casual design that is found in Mason-Dixon Knitting Field Guide No. 10: Downtown by Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne. "To see an Isabell Kraemer pattern is to want it: to knit it, and to wear it." The e-book available on Ravelry includes several patterns by Isabell can be purchased for $9.00usd. The sweater is worked top-down with a band of geometric colour in its yoke. This sport-weight sweater works with pretty much any combination of two colors you can think up: dark with a light yoke, light with a dark yoke, subtle or wild as you want.

The sweater requires 1480 - 1850 yards (1353 - 1692 m) of sport weight yarn and 3.25 mm (US 3) and 3.5 mm (US 4) needles or the needles to get a gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette using the larger needles.

WIP's and FO's

I have the Sheep Carousel tea cozy by Kate Davies on my needles that I am knitting along with the Colourwork and Steeking Class that Paulette is teaching.

I am enjoying working on my Cedar Point sweater by Espace Tricot. Lots of stockinette to knit while relaxing in front of the TV! I have a few more inches left on the body but I think that after I finish this skein of yarn, I will knit the sleeves and then decide on the body length which the pattern has you knit to 11" from the underarm.

I finished the body and front bands on my baby cardi and started the sleeves but I will probably frog the bands and re-knit them...I should have slipped the first stitch of each row for nice clean edges but I didn't!  I am not happy with them as they are. I think I have decided on the buttons I will use too.
