Favourite Patterns Friday, March 22, 2019, Issue 93: Are you winter knitting or spring knitting?

Tulip by Ririko, an a-line pullover pattern that includes two styles with different shaping on the body and sleeves. The body and sleeves of both versions are worked from the neck down with Mock cable pattern on the raglan lines. The sleeves are put on waste yarn at the underarm, and the body is knitted in one piece in an A-line silhouette, with Tulip pattern on the sides. Simple version’s body is knitted plain to the hem, while the Tulip pattern is also worked around the bottom for Feminine version.

The sleeves are worked down in the round to 3/4 length, with decreases for fitted sleeves of Simple version, and with increases for bell-shaped sleeves of Feminine version.

Both versions have a mock cable pattern on the raglan lines and the Tulip pattern on the sides. The sweater is knit using fingering weight yarn with different yardage and she includes the yardage options for if you want to make the simple version's length with the bell sleeves. 3 mm (US 2.5) and 3.5 mm (US 4) needles are used or the needles to get a gauge of 24 sts and 32 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch on 3.5 mm (US 4) needles.

Jared Flood's Treefolds Hat is worked in the round from the bottom up with an optional single brim or double layer folded brim. The textured motif is worked from charts only; directional cable crosses have been color-coded for ease of reading. "Enjoy texture, both quiet and luxurious, with the Treefolds Hat. Allover cables developed as a modern take on traditional Tree of Life cable patterns is the highlighting feature of this stately hat. Trees abstracted into diamonds are created by zigzagging cable panels placed next to each other in mirroring directions. Blending seamlessly with these cable crosses are fully-fashioned double decreases at the crown, which result in a uniquely geometric design at the top of the hat."

Above jj.knits of IG (jlafortune)'s Treefolds cabled hat pattern by Brooklyn Tweed. The hat is knit using 355 yards (325 m) of fingering weight yarn using 3 mm (US 2.5) and 3.5 mm (US 4) needles or the size needed to get gauge. The gauge is 43 stitches & 39 rounds = 4″ in chart pattern with Size A needle(s), after blocking, measured unstretched. One 38-stitch & 36-round repeat of Treefolds Chart measures 3⅝” wide and 3⅝” tall with Size A needle(s), after blocking. The finished hat is 21¼” [54 cm] circumference; 8¾” [22 cm] length (with brim folded).

These little beauties are Paulette’s Splatterdash Wristwarmers that she knit- so pretty with all the buttons! It is a Free pattern by Dagmar Mora, fingerless mittens with a textured fan pattern, reminiscent of the spats an abbreviation of “spatterdashes” men wore to cover the tops of their shoes. A touch of Victorian-inspired feather and fan makes these very feminine.

The mittens are knitted flat, and wrapped around the hand. The overlap provides an extra layer underneath the textured flap, preventing the cold autumn winds to blow through the eyelets, and making these mittens especially warm and cozy. Decorate the mitts with a row of your prettiest buttons, and enjoy wearing them throughout autumn and winter too!

You will need 350 yards (320 m) of fingering weight yarn and 2.25 mm (US 1) needles to get a gauge of 32 stitches and 44 rows = 4 inches in stocking stitch.

WIP's and FO's

I finished my Cedar Point by Espace Tricot! It might look heavy but it is actually a very lightweight sweater knit using Berroco Brielle which is a worsted weight yarn that is 50% Cotton, 17% Polyester, 16% Acrylic, 10% Wool, 7% Alpaca. The soft halo from the alpaca content combined with just a little bit of shimmer creates timeless pieces that are soft, warm and lightweight to wear.

I took these selfie photos before I wove in the ends or blocked and despite the odd angles, they are much better than when Ed took them for me lol! Wonderfully oversized, relaxed and comfortable fit to wear with a slim skirt or leggings!

On Tuesday, I cast Rainier by Kate Gagnon Osborn onto my needles! I am using the yarn from the pattern, Kelbourne Woolens Scout in 26 Charcoal Heather and 58 Gray Heather but I am reversing the light with the dark. I am also planning to knit mine in a dress length.

Last Saturday night was our Berroco Yarn Tasting! 5 taster 20g cakes of their new spring/summer yarns, wine, cheese and a scarf pattern that I wrote and started for those who wanted to make something with their taster cakes! Kathy was the only one who decided she wanted to knit swatches that she could wash and block to see how they would behave individually.

I had to re-arrange the shop a bit to fit the extra table!

My coffee table has a top that lifts up so it became the perfect serving table for the goodies!

Nicole won the draw for a full cake of Berroco's new Estiva, a 100% cotton tape yarn with 336 yards in its 150g cake and a copy of Berroco's Booklet #406 of six Estiva patterns.
