Favourite Patterns Friday, April 5, 2019, Issue 95: It is really looking like spring!

It is still chilly out so it is cardigan weather!

Mariechen by Isabell Kraemer is worked from the top down seamlessly back and forth with raglan increases to shape the yoke. The fronts are worked in Double Seed Stitch with a cute textured cable/lace panel down the center. The sleeve stitches are placed on hold to work the body first top down to the hem after the yoke is finished. Next, the buttonhole band, button band and neck finishing are worked before picking up the sleeve stitches to work down in the round to the cuffs. Knit it using 974 - 1641 yards (891 - 1501 m) of DK weight yarn using 4.0 mm (US 6) needles for the body and sleeves, 3.5 mm (US 4) needles for the hem and sleeve cuffs and 3.25 mm (US 3) needles for the neck or the sizes to get gauge. Gauge is 20 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch with the largest needles, blocked.

Eri's Olive Leaf Cardigan was written in collaboration and using the same stitch as her friend Ririko and fil-choufu. It is a raglan yoke cardigan worked from the top down with a shallow neck that is shaped with short rows. The yoke and body are worked back and forth. The sleeves, set aside at the underarm, are worked top down in the round once the body is finished. You can choose from Sorbet version which has a button closure and the open-front Olive version. Knit this cardigan using 1159 - 1969 yards (1060 - 1800 m) of fingering weight yarn and 3.25 mm (US 3) and 3.75 mm (US 5) needles or the needles to get gauge. Gauge is 26 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch with the larger needles, blocked.

Ririko’s Olive Leaf Pullover was written in collaboration and using the same stitch as her friend Eri. The pattern includes two hem styles and two neck options with the olive leaf pattern on the shoulders and lower body. It is worked from the top down seamlessly starting with the yoke in the round with saddle shoulder construction, then back and forth separately to the underarm, where they are joined again. The lower body is knitted in one piece in the round with Olive leaf pattern. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the arm openings and worked down in the round with Olive leaf pattern. Knit this pullover using 951 - 2466 yards (870 - 2255 m) of fingering weight yarn. You will need 4.5 mm (US 7) needles for the body leaf pattern, 3.75 mm (US 5) needles for the body and sleeves and 3.0 mm(US 2.5) for the neck.

Sachiko Uemura (knittimo)’s Jeweled Cowl is a free pattern that she wrote shortly after the Japan earthquake/tsunami of March 11, 2011. The pattern on Ravelry still includes the links to donate to a few charities or a charity of your choice. The cowl is knitted entirely in the round with some bead/lace work but can be knit beadless. The Jeweled Cowl is knit with 470 yards (430 m) of lace weight yarn such as Malabrigo Lace or Malabrigo Baby Silkpaca using 5.0 mm (US 8) needles or the needles to get a gauge of 4.5 stitches and 7.5 rows = 1 inch in stockinette.

WIP's and FO's

The Barnstable by Lisa Hannes that is on my needles using Malabrigo Dos Tierras has progressed to the mosaic pattern. So far I am enjoying it...Others have said to me that they did not enjoy using this method of knitting colourwork. I do like the look of a lot of the mosaic patterns so I will reserve judgment especially since I do like so many of Lisa Hannes' patterns!

My Rainier by Kate Gagnon Osborn is moving along a little slower than it should because I am of course also working on other projects too! I am using Scout which is a classic, strong, versatile, heathered wool yarn from Kelbourne Woolens. It is a dream to knit with and with 274 yards to a skein goes far. I have only just started the second skein of the darker shade!

Last Sunday (March 31st) after our Weaving Workshop, I warped one of the Ashford Sampleit Looms! Here I am almost finished.

Taking my scarf off the loom! Exciting!

Look what I made using Noro Silk Garden for my weft! I love how this turned out and how quick it was...almost instant gratification! We will definitely run the workshop again soon!

Trina wove this for her weaving project! A combination of Berroco Vintage Chunky and Phildar Phil Folk 100 held double that she had left over after knitting a pair of socks!

Bev M finished knitting the scarf that I designed to be knit with her Berroco Yarn Tasting kit! She had to modify it to be narrower because there wasn't enough yarn to go as many rows as I had aimed for.

Linda and Jean both knit Groot’s Cardigan of the Galaxy by Mary Annarella. Jean still needs to sew on her buttons!

CLASSES

Last chance to sign up for our Basic Sock Class! It starts next Saturday from 10 am until 12 noon for 3 sessions.

It is also the last chance to sign up for the Felted Clogs Class that also starts tomorrow from 1 pm until 3 pm for 2 sessions! These are the last classes that Kathy will teach until mid-October.

Strange Brew Colourwork Class with Paulette is the last class scheduled this season starting Saturday, May 4th from 10 am until 12 noon for 4 sessions.
